Kapa'a Sunrise

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 10 October 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This image was taken on the island of Kaua'i in May of 2008. A friend who was planning a wedding had requested a photo of aHawaiian sunrise as a gift. I got up at 4 am two days in a row and drove from my condo in Poipu Beach out to Kapa'a to capture just the right image. This was, I think, my best shot.

At the end of the day, my friend chose another image - a country rural landscape which couldn't have been farther removed from a Hawaiian sunrise. But I had fun making the images, and have this photograph to show for the effort. Even though it is tough to get up at dawn for the best light, I always find that once I am on location and engaged in the work of the photography, I soon forget my early morning weariness.
