After the Rains - Death Valley

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 20 February 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Back to Death Valley. The rainstorms of the week before my visit left amazing patterns in the sand. In the early dawn light, these patterns really came to life. I noticed this interesting twig lying by the side of the dunes. I picked it up, tossed it onto the dry sand, and photographed it where it lay. Maybe messing with Mother Nature just a tad, but I wanted to see the juxtaposition of the dry, patterned twig against the dry patterns of the sand after the rains. Texture and pattern - two of my favorite photographic subjects - brought to more vivid life by the wonderful early morning glow in the sky.

A kind of magical moods. The curves of the branches and the cracks of the ground are really appealing. Wonderful photo.

Nice. Sometimes the simplest things become profound when really seen.
