Snowy Oaks and El Capitan, Yosemite

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 24 February 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

For a change of pace, I have decided to post some images taken in Yosemite in the winter of 2008. It is snowing again in the park, and because of other demands on the home front, I have not been able to make my winter trek this year. So, for the new few days, I will share a few of my Yosemite winter memories.

This is El Capitan and some of the oak trees in the meadow below the rock. I liked the way that the late afternoon light lit the face of El Cap with an orange glow on this particular day, providing the perfect backdrop for the silhouette of the naked branches and snow. While the whole of the monolith is not visible in this photograph, I like the way that the feel of the texture of the granite comes through well in the detail of this image.

Barbara I really like this image and what you describe as the backdrop of the warm stone colors from El Capitan. The fresh snow on the tree limbs provides great visual interest also!

beautiful composition - the background is perfect for the trees and snow to be sharply and clearly visible - lovely colour tones as well!

The light is really nice here, Barbara. I like the snow contrasting with the bark. I'm looking forward to more Yosemite images-it is one of my all time favorite places!
