Yesterday, I drove up to Sonoma County with a friend with the intention of photographing the mustards in the vineyards. We left at the crack of dawn in hopes of catching the sunrise over the mustards. It wasn't to be. Another totally overcast day. So, in hopes of getting an interesting perspective incorporating the geometry of the vineyards, we drove up and down highway 12 and highway 29. At one stop, as we walked into the vineyards, I noticed a lovely patch of little wildflowers and stooped down to try some macro shots. Well, what should appear, but these two ladybugs celebrating spring!
This was my best shot of the day, and maybe the only keeper. Once again, the best shot turned out to be one that I had not previsualized at all. We need to stay open to surprises and what reveals itself when we slow down and look around. I was delighted to see this. It does remind me that in spite of today's drenching rain (again!), spring is really just around the corner.
