Barrell Cactus Blossoms, Anza Borrego Desert

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 6 April 2010 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

I was fortunate to run across a few blossoming cactus plants during my brief stay in the Anza Borrego desert. This blooming barrell cactus was one of the most special. I love the way the individual blossoms sort of form a crown around the head of this thorny and otherwise forbidding plant.

Nice composition. The center of the blossoms really draw your eye in. The color is such a contrast to the rest of the plant!
