Christ the Light in Oakland

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 22 July 2010 in Architecture and Portfolio.

A new Catholic cathedral was completed last year. Located on Lake Merritt, the Christ the Light cathedral has this image of Christ created by thousands of holes punched into the steel (aluminum?) with lasers. This was taken from inside in the afternoon.

Yes, I am out of my usual "zone", but am reaching back into my archives to find other expressions of my creativity. I feel I need a little kick, as in the pants! Growing is an incremental process for me and, I think, others as well. Two steps forward, wait, a step back, wait some more, and sometimes a big leap. I'm waiting for that big leap moment again and need to jolt my creativitiy. Stay tuned!

This is a really neat photo, and a very interesting work of art! I really know what you mean about the Kick.... have needed one for some time- and I have also been "waiting" for that boost of creativity, myself! (sometimes I push too hard, then it's 3 or 4 steps backwards for me!)

Lots of patterns here and good exposure. Whatever your subject, you always find a different way to present it. I will stay tuned!

A very striking photo. Great composition and cropping. It is an impressive "non-stained glass" image, too.
