Day's End - Hope Valley, California Sierras

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 13 October 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

I've been up to Hope Valley on Highway 88 to catch the fall color in the aspens. The weather was sunny and warm, which is not flattering to photos, so I restricted most of my work to early dawn and the shadowy areas at dusk. But at times, I decided to just work with the light, like I have been doing on my practice runs through the city streets. Is this successful? Hmmmm...I've been working on that sun flare thing at f16, still have a ways to go, but maybe getting there!

You got the flare, but sometimes the sun is just too strong. I like how the grasses are lit up. I am missing the west right now!

The backlighting shows off the grasses and yellow leaves. I like the overall texture, too.

No that's an awesome star there Barbara. I really like the grass too, like David. The Aspen trunk adds a nice balance to the light because it is white. I was out on my lunch hour today taking, OMG those dreaded and illegal "MID-DAY SHOTS" (shhh, don't tell anyone) but I was in the shade mostly and trying to work with the sun as you have did a great job I think). Hey we gotta do what we gotta do, ya know??

I think the light is beautiful here! It's diffused enough by the trees to take some of the harshness out but there's still enough to give the grass that golden glow.

O my, your timing, and the effort you made to catch this one was well worth the effort! Over-all, a super shot
