The Temple of Sinawava - Zion

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 14 November 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

I did not get to the end of the Zion Canyon road until my third day in the park. I guess I had been too busy exploring the high country. In any case, this is the sight that greeted me when I finally did arrive at the end of this road one late afternoon. The river was filled with photographers of all sort - many of them using large film view cameras. As for me, I contented myself to stay at the edge of the stream and use my trusty Nikon digital D90 to capture this amazing scene in all of its fall glory. I must say, no wonder the Mormons felt that their arrival at this sacred corner of Utah felt to them like a blessing from God!

Gorgeous image. I like how the main rock formation stands out--great 3 dimensional feel. Beautiful colors and light. Perfect composition with that bit of water at the bottom. Is this an HDR? You did your D90 proud!!

@Anita: Hi Anita, no this is not an HDR. I have learned to do selective burning and dodging with light and dark to help create the 3D feel. John Paul Capinigro has a great tutorial series on this technique, well worth watching! Thanks for the feedback.

Viveza 2 is a gold mine. There are very few of my posts that don't use Viveza 2 at some stage.
