String of Rocks - Point Lobos Reserve

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 20 November 2010 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

I drove down to Carmel for a day and a night with friends this week. Yesterday morning was gray and overcast, the perfect conditions for a quiet stroll at Weston Beach in the Point Lobos Reserve on the Pacific Coast. There are a thousand details and a million patterns waiting to be discovered there. I put on my 90 mm macro lens and just wandered in solitude for almost 3 hours. A wonderful mediation with the rocks and the sea. Today a cold winter rainstorm has settled in over the bay - and will be with us for several days to come. I was lucky to have my special morning at the seashore yesterday.

Barbara, you have such a great eye for detail. I love the blue pebbles in this crack and the texture of the rock. When we went to Point Lobos on Don Smith's workshop last spring I absolutely fell in love with the place. I could spend a week walking around there!

lovely work! love the level of detail here - the stones look just like they have been threaded through and suspended between the rocks...

Fantastic texture and detail, and the processing really makes it. I think the same processing would also work well on the next day's shot.

Hi Barbara

Famous site (I never have been there, but I read and saw some pictures) enchanting for close up photographers who create a world of wonders. Attaching colors and shapes. By the way, did you attend a photo workshop? Do you know the book of B&W pictures of Lucien Clergue "langage des sables"? I am sure you will appreciate it.
Cheers
