Last February, I made a trip to Death Valley and the Alabama Hills east of the Sierras off highway 395. It was a magical week of terrific winter light. I spent the night at Lone Pine and made this image just at dawn.
I am active in the Berkeley Camera Club, and I had submitted this image in a travel competition. This weekend, this image was chosen by the Northern California Council of Camera Clubs as the "Travel Image of the Year".
I am proud of my work, proud that I got up at dawn to grab this shot, and proud that I am still, (hey, today is my 65th birthday!) getting up and out and making art. Photography is a passion which will fuel my fire for, hopefully, decades more to come!

@Denny Jump Photo: Why thank you, Denny! I am always so touched by your comments and appreciation! It helps to keep me going! I must say that I was on a workshop with other photogs when I made this shot - being with others is great motivation to get up at dawn and out into the winter morning!
@Scott F. Schilling: Well, I was with Gary and Don, so you can be sure I got up early! They are pretty great taskmasters!
