Mt. Whitney and Alabama Hills, Winter Dawn

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 11 January 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Last February, I made a trip to Death Valley and the Alabama Hills east of the Sierras off highway 395. It was a magical week of terrific winter light. I spent the night at Lone Pine and made this image just at dawn.

I am active in the Berkeley Camera Club, and I had submitted this image in a travel competition. This weekend, this image was chosen by the Northern California Council of Camera Clubs as the "Travel Image of the Year".

I am proud of my work, proud that I got up at dawn to grab this shot, and proud that I am still, (hey, today is my 65th birthday!) getting up and out and making art. Photography is a passion which will fuel my fire for, hopefully, decades more to come!

I wish you the Happiest of Birthdays, Barbara!! What a pleasure and a true honor it is to simply be able to view your beautiful works of art and to chat with you on the blog here. This image is MOST deserving of the recognition and I certainly congratulate you for that...You have me beat buy two years - I will get to 64 in knees are shot and will soon be destined for repair (hopefully just scope) and then, perhaps, I can trapse around the rocks as you must have done here. Until then I can enjoy your wonderful work, take a couple shots of my own, and proudly say that I "know" you and am a huge fan....Well done, Barbara and Happy Birthday!
