Today, It's Color!

Posted by
Barbara Lee (Oakland, United States) on 7 February 2011 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

While attending a macro seminar in Carlsbad, near San Diego, I found this amazing tree in the parking lot of a shopping center. While the others were photographing still life sets in the seminar room, I got my camera and headed over there. I loved the color of the trunk of this fan shaped, flat plant. I do not know its name - the leaves looked like banana leaves. I would love to know what it is! I loved the color and textures, and hope you will enjoy them, too!

Hi, Babara. I sat next to you yesterday at the macro workshop. This plant is a giant bird of paradise. It is one of the most wonderful plants we have in Southern California. It grows gigantic, white, bird of paradise flowers which drip with red sap. Photographically there's no end to it! I am enjoying your galleries.

The color and texture are great, and the tight crop is good, too. The composition emphasizes the repeating pattern of the alternating leaves.

This is a wall piece. I love the angular setting of the leaves and the contrasts in colors and individual leaves...like members of the same family but diffrent personalities...I love this!

Not a tree. Read previous post: a giant 'bird of paradise'. Looks like a water color painting. I love my latitude's botany.
